The ‘material fragments’ Hughes presents—across collage, ceramics and drawings—resonate with Swedenborg’s conceptualization of ‘representatives’, and invite renewed attention to his use of words respectively often translated as ‘form’, ‘shape’, ‘object’ and ‘vessel’, as James Wilson has written in an accompanying text.
